Texts and Tweets: A Jewish Perspective on Navigating Social Media as a Family
This interactive family workshop explores the role of social media in the lives of our children, young teens, and families through a Jewish lens. We will apply lessons from Jewish texts and current thought on responsible online behavior to create a "Toolkit" for initiating and responding to conversations about a safe online presence.
As a family program, parents and kids initially meet separately to explore parallel themes through different Jewish texts. Then, families come together to share, converse and apply their learning to their daily lives.
Parent-only and student-only formats are also possible.
Recommended for families with students in grades 6 - 8.
"Thank you for a wonderful, well put together program. Parents were engaged; students were engaged and the culminating activity was well received by all. Teachers felt the Ted Ed was great and easy for kids to understand and process. "
-Anna Besser, Education Director, Congregation Beth Judea, Long Grove, IL
"Mindy’s facilitation of ‘Texts and Tweets’ was packed with content, process, and heart. She was responsive to our needs leading up to her visit, taking our synagogue and school population into account as she planned the sessions. She is organized, efficient, flexible, creative and compassionate. ‘Texts and Tweets’ combined Jewish text, interactive video content, technology tools, discussion and a creative component. Students and their parents learned separately and then together as parent-child pairs. The content and participatory nature of Mindy’s presentation pushed parents and their children to consider how technology is integrated into their lives and what Judaism has to say about it."
